Parkside's Story

Parkside Homes began in the minds of members from the Hillsboro community in 1960. The goal was a retirement community where residents could be active, find fellowship and security and where people could retire and enjoy their later years. Parkside Homes originated as a not-for-profit community that was founded on faith.

The community began with independent living apartments and some nursing care. Parkside has evolved into a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) where residents can age in place. Faith, family and quality care have been the core values to Parkside’s success since the very first development meeting in 1960. The ground breaking for Parkside was held on December 9, 1962 with construction of the original buildings beginning on January 21, 1963. On November 10, 1963 the very first resident moved in.

Nestled in a quiet area on the south side of Hillsboro, Kansas in Marion County, Parkside is near Tabor College and Memorial Park. There are opportunities for all of the residents to enjoy the wide-open spaces and landscaped gardens.

OUR MISSION

Parkside strives to enrich all we serve with Christ-like compassion, respect, excellence and integrity.

Parkside continues to offer various types of accommodations to provide a wonderful blend of community, privacy and independence with assistance as desired or needed.

Today, Parkside continues to be a faith based retirement community. We offer services that provide a variety of lifestyle options including duplexes and patio homes for independent living, full-size apartments for independent or assisted living, or private suites where full care or rehabilitation care is provided.

In our Healthcare we offer additional services including short-stay rehabilitation services, respite and day services. Residents have the opportunity to experience a high quality of life that allows for dignity and growth.

The lifestyle at Parkside has been recognized by both the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) as well as the State of Kansas’ PEAK (Promoting Excellent Alternatives in Kansas) program. Parkside has received The Five Star Award, the highest award given by CMS.

Also, Parkside is recognized as a Sustained Person-Centered Care Home, through the PEAK program. Even though these awards are note-worthy, the Parkside team’s focus is not on the award but on the quality of life of the residents that we serve.
